Introduction

The Mandrel Handling System (MHS) is an optional feature that assists personnel in removing and installing a forming mandrel. The MHS is located above the compression area.

  1. From the Main Control screen on the HMI, do the following:
    • From the Main Control screen on the HMI, do the following:

    • Touch Setup.

    • Touch Tray Setup. If the Tray Selection screen appears, select the tray that is currently loaded in the hopper.

    • Touch Blank/Mandrel Drive

    • Touch Mandrel Load Profile.

    • Touch Mandrel Load Enable Goto Position. The ram moves the mandrel into the off-loading position.

  2. Loosen the two side ball knobs. Pull out the guide rails. Tighten the two side ball knobs.
    • Loosen the two side ball knobs.

    • Pull out the guide rails.

    • Tighten the two side ball knobs.

  3. Loosen the the two ball knobs securing the mandrel trolley, Push the mandrel trolley back against the ram mounting plate.
    • Loosen the the two ball knobs securing the mandrel trolley,

    • Push the mandrel trolley back against the ram mounting plate.

    • Tighten the trolley ball knobs,

  4. Loosen the two locking pins on the top of the ram mounting plate. If required, disconnect any air lines from the mandrel. Slide the mandrel off of the ram mounting plate and onto the trolley's mounting plate.
    • Loosen the two locking pins on the top of the ram mounting plate.

    • If required, disconnect any air lines from the mandrel.

    • Slide the mandrel off of the ram mounting plate and onto the trolley's mounting plate.

    • Loosen the mandrel trolley ball knobs.

  5. These steps may require more than one person.
    • These steps may require more than one person.

    • Push the trolley and mandrel down the extension arms until the mandrel is clear of the tray former.

    • Carefully slide the mandrel off of the trolley's mounting plate.

Conclusion

To install a new mandrel, slide it onto the trolley's mounting plate and reverse the steps in this guide.
