Overview
Setting up the BEL 5150 to fold a particular case size is accomplished with adjustments for case width and length. There is a third adjustment to reposition the major flap folder plates that, after the initial setup, will need to be changed only where there is a large variety of case widths.
WARNING
IMPORTANT - Switch the machine OFF by pushing down the red ‘EMERGENCY STOP’ button before making any changes or adjustments.
Instructions
There are illustrated case size adjustment instructions on the top of the left-hand side of the frame rail.
Case Length 'C'
There is only a single adjustment for case length in the case former section of the machine. The rear minor flap folder ‘tower’ slides along the bottom frame member to adjust for case length. Release the locking screw ‘T’ lever at the base of tower, position it according to the length scale, and re-tighten it.
Case Height 'H'
Unlock the height adjustment and rotate the hand wheel to raise or lower the top flap folder and tape head sub-assembly to the correct case height.
Case Width 'D'
D1 Width Adjustment Screw
Attach the hand crank supplied with the machine on the square shaft that extends from both sides of the frame. Adjust the width using the reference scale under the sealer conveyor on the left hand side of the machine.
Former Rollers 'M'
The case former section major flap folder roller plates need to be adjusted in or out according to the case width. If left too far out, they will jam the machine when the width is adjusted for narrow cases. If not adjusted out for wide cases, they will not fold the flaps effectively or provide support for product in the center of the case.
Case Side Compression Rollers Option
Adjust the case top side compression rollers on the side of the top tapehead holder using the scales provided. The rollers stabilize the top of the case and push the top major flaps together to minimize the gap between them before the taping of the flaps.
Extended Case Width Range
The machine is built with the capability of the case width screw adjustment to adjust for case widths from 5” to 18” [127mm to 457mm] but depending on the actual case sizes, the nature of the corrugated material and the need for product support under the center of cases it may be necessary to change components in the former section of the machine. The bottom major flap folder plates need to be retracted for narrow cases and extended for wide ones but there is a limit to their possible adjustment range. If it is necessary to form cases at both the minimum and maximum limits of the case width range, major folder extensions will need to be added and removed as part of the adjustment process.
