Overview
The scorelines on corrugated fiberboard are made to position and facilitate folds. On most singlewall cases, a single scoreline is enough to create a good fold of the corrugated board.
But with doublewall cases (and singlewall cases with a high edge crush test), single scorelines are not enough to provide a quality fold. The end result could be ill-formed packaging or even damage to packaging machinery. The simple solution is to use a double or offset scoreline.
Why Double or Offset Score Lines?
Using double or offset score lines with doublewall cases provide these benefits:
- A precise fold
- Well-formed cases with panels that lay flat and don’t bulge
- No tearing or stretching
- No crushing of the corrugated walls
- Better tape adhesion
- Reduced stress on packaging machine parts
Location of Double and Offset Score Lines
Double and offset score lines should be used at the fold for the major and minor flaps.
