Overview
The Rapid Load is a horizontal case-loading magazine that is available as an option on WF30 models. Cases are loaded “flat”, rather than vertically as with the standard WF magazine, removing the need to manipulate a case pusher arm or side rail. This results in faster loading times and an easier loading process for operators.

Theory of Operation
A stack of cases are placed flat into the loading area. (1) The cases are positioned by pushing them against the two back plates (2) and the side post. (3) The forming cycle is started.
The lug on the feedbelt (1) catches and pushes the case on the bottom of the stack forward and underneath the guide plate calipers (2). The calipers shear the bottom case from the stack and the guides prevent other cases from going forward. The Low Magazine and Empty Magazine sensors are used to monitor the status of the loading area.
The case travels toward the forming area and passes the Lift Detect sensor. Once the leading edge of the case is detected, the lift timer starts. The lift timer controls the start of the grippers and lift arms. (1 & 2) The case is pushed forward until it is on top of the lift arms. (1) The grippers (2) activate and hold the case in position. The lift arms activate and begin lifting the case into a vertical position.
As the case is lifted, the support wheel arm lowers and comes in behind the case blank. (1) It prevents the case from falling backwards and also lightly pushes the case forward into the major jaw plate. As the case is lifted and the support wheel arm lowers, the jaw plate is closing. The program is timed so that the case is fully erect and lightly pushed against the major jaw plate as the jaws close. The Case Injector sensor detects that the case is ready for injection. If the sensor does not detect a case in a specified amount of time, the machine will fault. Otherwise, the case is injected onto the jaw pins and the standard case erection procedure continues. |
Loading Instructions
Loading the Rapid Load magazine is very different compared to the standard magazine, as there is no need to adjust a guide rail or pusher arm. Also, you can reload the magazine without needing to interrupt the WF30’s operation.
To Load:
1. Place a stack of case blanks in the loading area (as shown).
2. Check:
- Case orientation: the bottom of the cases should be pointing towards the discharge end of the machine. The manufacturing joint should be face down, pointing towards the floor.
- Gap: there should be a 1/8” gap between the cases and the side stops. Adjust the case guides if necessary.
- Case strapping: remove before starting the machine and during operational loading.
3. Push the case stack against the guide plates and side post.
4. Start the machine.
