1. Adjust the upper tape head holder to the maximum case height, and remove the lower tape head or remove both upper and lower tape heads. 2. Remove the Rollers (x 3) between the conveyors.
3. Use a 17 mm wrench to loosen the Securing Bolts (x 2) circled in red. 4. Use a 13 mm wrench to loosen the Locking Nuts and Tensioning Jacking Bolt circled in blue. Adjust until the belts are loose.
5. Remove the Screws (x 4) securing the conveyor belt covers.
6. Remove the Conveyor Covers (x 2).
7. Remove both of the conveyor belts. Loosen the Tension Jacking Bolts in Step 4 to further loosen the conveyor belts if necessary. 8. Replace the conveyor belts and follow Step 4 and Step 3 in reverse to re‐tension the belts. Also see “Adjusting Belt Tension” in the next section. 9. Connect the machine to the power source and start and stop the machine briefly to observe the tension and tracking of the belts. Make adjustments if the belt is loose and vibrates, or if the belt does not remain aligned on its pulley. See “Belt Tension And Tracking” as well as “Adjusting Belt Tracking” in the next sections. 10. Replace the Conveyor Belt Covers (x 2) and the Rollers (x 3) by following Step 6, Step 5, and Step 2 in reverse. |
Belt Tension and Tracking
Belt tension and tracking need to be adjusted and tested in conjunction with tightening the large Securing Bolts. Correct tension and tracking will prolong belt and drive bearing life.
Adjusting Belt Tension
- Remove the Rollers (x 3) between the conveyors.
- Loosen the Tension Jacking Bolt Locknut with a 13 mm flat‐head wrench and the Securing Bolt with a 17mm wrench.
- Turn the Tension Jacking Bolt IN or OUT with a 13 mm flat‐head wrench, and then tighten the Securing Bolt.
- Briefly run the machine to determine if the tension is adequate to prevent slippage on the drive pulley when running larger cases.
- Repeat Step 2 to Step 4 to attain the correct tension.
- Re‐tighten the Tension Jacking Bolt Locknut and replace the Rollers (x 3).
Adjusting Belt Tracking
The following adjustments must be made separately for each belt:
- Remove the Rollers (x 3) between the conveyors.
- Loosen the Tracking Adjustment Screw Locknut with a 10 mm flat‐head wrench and the Securing Bolt with a 17mm wrench.
- Turn the Tracking Screw IN or OUT using a 10 mm flat‐head wrench, and then tighten the Securing Bolt. (TIP: Turn Screw Clockwise or IN to track belt towards the center of the machine. Turn Screw Counter‐clockwise or OUT to track belt towards the side of the machine.)
- Briefly run the machine to observe the tracking of the belt.
- Repeat Step 2 to Step 4 until the belt stays centered on the pulley.
- Re‐tighten the Tracking Adjustment Screw Locknuts, and replace the Rollers (x 3).
Width Adjustment Lock Replacement
Illustration 55-182-04
The Quick Change adjustment mechanism for case width incorporates a Mechlock slider lock assembly that secures the case width guide rails at the desired size. Located inside the adjustment mechanism, the lock assembly can be removed and replaced as a unit.

Tools Required | 1 | 13 mm | Flat or combination wrench |
1 | 10 mm | Flat or combination wrench |
The procedure for replacing the lock assembly is as follows:
- With a 10 mm wrench, remove the bolt that attaches the flattened rod end of the lock assembly to the left‐hand guide arm. NOTE: there is a spacer bushing inserted in the end of the rod. If the bushing is missing from the new lock assembly, it should be removed and inserted into the new rod end.
- With a 13 mm wrench remove the bolt that attaches the spherical ball rod‐end to the right‐hand guide arm.
- Using the 13 mm wrench, remove the lock nut from the bolt that mounts the lock to the adjustment mechanism bracket and unthread the bolt from behind to remove the lock. WARNING: DO NOT LOOSEN THE SPACER BETWEEN THE LOCK HOUSING AND THE MOUNTING BRACKET.
- A replacement lock assembly from the factory should come with the hole center distance between the fixed and adjustable end of the rod set so that the case‐width guide arms will center correctly. However, after installing and testing, there may be a need for minor adjustment. This is described in Step 7.
- Mount the new lock assembly with the bolt and spacer (the reverse of Step 3). It should firmly hold the Mechlock but not squeeze the housing to the point of deflecting the sides together. WARNING: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE MOUNTING BOLT.
- Reconnect the arms by following Step 1 and Step 2 in reverse.
- Test the operation of the mechanism. If the case guide arms center uniformly but the case is held a little off‐center from the conveyor, the position of the whole mechanism can be adjusted slightly by loosening the mounting bolts to the machine frame, repositioning the mechanism, and retightening the bolts. If the case width guide rails do not keep a case centered uniformly through the range of adjustment, remove the bolt that attaches the spherical ball rod‐end to the right guide arm again, rotate it IN or OUT 1/2 turn, and test again. Repeat as necessary.
- The horizontal or level position of the case guide arms when locked can be adjusted by repositioning the magnet that holds the arms in the locked position. Loosen the lock nut of the magnet stem on the front of the mounting bracket with a 13 mm wrench and rotate the magnet IN or OUT until the arms are held level. Retighten the lock nut.
